Heathrow Airport Closure 21st march 2025

CSP are committed to providing its travel insurance customers informative advice as quickly as possible. Due to events on Friday 21st March 2025 at London’s Heathrow airport CSP, put their emergency response team into action.

We understand that the disruption and uncertainty caused by the closure of the airport affected thousands of travellers and became global news. We want to reassure our customers that from the moment the closure was announced, our teams acted quickly to provide clear information, support and assistance.

As soon as closure was confirmed we issued advice on our website and ensured our helplines were fully open and operational along with the key claims teams so that we could meet the high demand of customer concerns.

What to do should this happen again or should your flight be cancelled:

Keep in touch with your airline (or booking agent) who will advise you about rescheduling on an alternative flight or making a refund. Additionally, all UK and EU based airlines have an obligation to provide accommodation to get you to your destination or offer a refund but not both. For airlines based elsewhere their response varies but it is important to communicate with them to explore your options in the first instance.

If your airline is unable to arrange assistance, you have the right to organise this yourself and claim the costs back from the airline. The Civil Aviation Authority advises people to keep receipts and not spend more than necessary.

While the airlines were not responsible for the closure of the airport but in some instances, they have a duty to pay compensation after 3 hours of delays.
