Does my travel insurance cover sailing?
You should refer to the policy wording for full details of the cover. Our travel insurance policies cover claims arising from sailing within coastal waters. You should however note that our policies do not usually cover search and rescue.
The limit of coastal waters is defined by the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. It usually means a belt of coastal waters extending at most 12 nautical miles (22.2 km; 13.8 mi) from the baseline (usually the mean low-water mark) of a coastal state but you should check the position for any area in which you intend to sail.
